"When I am on a wave, nothing else matters, my head is cleared and it is just me and the wave."
What imprint/mark do you want to leave on young girls and women?
I want young girls and women to stop striving to be this image that the media pushes us to believe we must look like in order to be considered "beautiful". Because of this image the media shows us, women are globally suffering from eating disorders, drug use, depression, suicide, low self -esteem, the list goes on.... I want women to empower themselves, forget about this image and focus on being the strongest, healthiest and most capable version of themselves. We will all look different at our healthiest, and I want women to feel empowered by this, not ashamed because they don't look like someone else. Diversity is what makes us beautiful and unique, and thus should be shown in the media! If every woman found an image they could relate to, they would all stop striving to look like something they were never built to look like, and could then just focus on being healthy and happy by their own standards.
What does surfing mean to you?
Surfing is what keeps me centered, humble , and connected to the earth. It is where I go to detach from the world, and live in the moment. When I am on a wave, nothing else matters, my head is cleared and it is just me and the wave. It truly is so much more than a sport to me, it is my whole life, and I am so grateful for it.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by all of the amazing women that share their stories with me on Instagram, who speak raw and truthfully. I feel so honored that I get to hear these stories and connect with amazing women from all over! It keeps me motivated and inspired to continue sharing my own truth and my mission for diversity and body acceptance within the media and athletic world.
What advice can you give to young girls and women looking to be more body confident?
I have found my body confidence through my athletic capabilities, and constant re commitment to believing in myself as more than an outside image. I push myself harder everyday, set new goals, and focus on being the strongest and healthiest version of myself. This has nothing to do with the way I look, the outside will be what it wants to when I focus on these things, but the inside will feel empowered and that is when I feel most confident.
What do you look for in the perfect pair of jeans?
I look for stretch and quality in my denim. I love wearing premium denim, without feeling like I can't move. I have thighs and a butt that don't like being trapped, they need room to move!
^^ We've got you covered, Bo.
Thigh game strong 💪🏼 I don't workout for a thigh gap, nor would I trade my hard earned muscles in my thighs for smaller legs. They serve a purpose. I workout to have strong legs that can run me up my trails and drive me through my turns while I'm surfing. Women should be encouraged to be capable, strong and self-empowered. Not shown that smaller is more desirable, or a space between your thighs makes you "hot". Work hard ladies and be proud of your amazing , strong , and physically capable bodies 💗💪🏼✨ #nothighgapnoproblem #fitness #empowerwomen #athlete #strongisbeautiful #iamsizesexy PC @torreywest ✨✨✨ #iamcurve
